Red Mountain is a small American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in southeast Washington State known for producing premium red wines. Vines were first planted in the region in 1975, and it is now home to more than 54 delimited vineyards dedicated mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah. The mountain slope’s high altitude and its proximity to the Yakima River provide ample sunlight and cool nights where grapes can ripen slowly, developing a great concentration of flavor and supple tannins while maintaining their natural acidity.

In 2012, Duckhorn Vineyards ventured from California’s Napa Valley to Red Mountain in search of exceptional vineyards to produce outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon. Shortly, they launched Canvasback, a Cabernet Sauvignon showcasing the elegant profile that can be achieved in Red Mountain wines, as well as the world renowned Duckhorn style.
