Collio Goriziano DOC, commonly known as Collio DOC, is a designation of origin located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in northeastern Italy. Meaning "hillsides" in Italian, Collio refers to the area's hilly terrain, which, combined with the maritime influence of the Adriatic Sea, provides the vineyards with moderate temperatures and shelter from the harsh climate. Its distinctive "ponca" soil, a mixture of marl and sandstone, is rich in minerals and small marine fossils, adding a touch of minerality and salinity to the wines. Three-quarters of its wine production is white wine based on the local Ribolla Gialla and Friuliano grapes, distinguished by their aromatic complexity, elegance, and vibrant acidity. They also grow international grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, as well as several red wines composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Nero. Enjoy these whites with our traditional seafood salads or fried whole fish. Cheers!
