Bordeaux, one of the most famous wine producing areas in the world, is divided by the Gironde Estuary, which connects two rivers to the Atlantic Ocean. The “right bank” is located to the east, or right, of the Gironde and Dordogne River, and includes the regions of Pomerol and St-Émilion, among others. Contrary to the “left bank”, the soils have a high concentration of clay and limestone, and the climate is warmer, making it perfect for Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec added to the mix. The wines from the right bank tend to have rich red and black fruit flavors with smooth tannins and supple mouthfeel. Some of the most famous wineries in the area include Chateau Teyssier, Chateau Petrus, and Chateau Cheval Blanc.
