Marlborough

Marlborough is New Zealand’s largest wine growing region, located on the northeast tip of the South Island. It has a temperate maritime climate with plenty of sunshine and low rainfall which helps the grapes develop intense flavor compounds.  Vines were first planted in the area in the 1870’s by early settlers, but it was in the 1980’s when wines gathered international praise, especially aromatic white wines made with Sauvignon Blanc.  Marlborough is known as one of the best places in the world to grow Sauvignon Blanc with concentrated and unique aromas of passion fruit, grapefruit, and vibrant acidity.  The cool climate is also suitable for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and sparkling wines, which they produce in smaller quantities.
