Suisun Valley is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located southeast of Napa Valley, California.  This small area, roughly 8 miles long and 3 miles wide, is well known for small, family-owned farms dedicated to growing walnuts, apricots, olives, and grapes. Established in 1982, it shares a border with its famous neighbor and sits between the Vaca Mountains to the east and Mount George Range to the west, while its proximity to the San Pablo Bay allows for cool ocean air to freshen the vineyards.  Structured red grapes thrive in this environment, predominantly Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, while Sauvignon Blanc dominates plantings of white grapes. There are approximately 15 wineries established in Suisun Valley, most of which sell their wines only in their family tasting room. Check out Caymus The Walking Fool and Suisun Grand Durif, and keep an eye out for this up-and-coming region!
