Moscadello di Montalcino DOC is located in Tuscany, western Italy, within the municipality of Montalcino. While the area is best known for Brunello di Montalcino, its iconic Sangiovese-based red wine, references to Moscadello date back to the 15th century, highlighting its deep historical roots. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, ideal for ripening aromatic grapes. Vineyards are planted on well-draining soils rich in clay and limestone, contributing to freshness and aromatic compounds. Production is extremely limited and the wine must be made with at least 85% of Moscato Bianco grape in several styles: dry, frizzante, or late harvest. In the late-harvest version, grapes are left on the vine to develop higher sugar concentration and aromatic complexity. Typical aromas include peach, floral notes, honey, and orange peel. Late-harvest Moscadello pairs beautifully with blue cheeses, fruit tarts, and morcilla, where its sweetness and acidity balance richness and intensity.
