Laurelwood District AVA (American Viticultural Area) is located on the slopes of the Chehalem Mountains in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. The name refers to its unique “laurelwood” soil, a mix of basalt base and freshwater silt accumulated over the past 200,000 years and that can only be found on the northern edges of the Willamette Valley. It received AVA status in 2020, making it one of the newest AVAs in Oregon and, with an elevation of 1600 feet, the highest in the Valley. There are 25 wineries dedicated mostly to Pinot Noir, with some plantings of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Their Pinot Noir are structured but elegant, with aromas of sweet and savory spices like anise and white pepper.
