Regions with Mediterranean climate are characterized by having little seasonal changes throughout the year with a long growing season with moderate to warm temperatures. It is the warmest climate to cultivate grapes and, since the vines experience more sun exposure, the wines tend to have higher alcohol content with full body and structured tannins. Most rainfall happens during winter, leaving the vineyards with the risk of drought during the rest of the year.
Wine regions with this climate are mostly found around the Mediterranean Sea, for example Priorat in Spain, Languedoc in France, and Tuscany in Italy. However, the regions of Napa Valley in California, southeastern Australia and northern Chile also experience a Mediterranean climate pattern.
